THE STORY

of our company

sdds

Our owner and founder, Mr. Htaik Gyee, worked in Japan for six years, learned the language and became familiar with Japan’s extremely strict import regulations and business culture.

After graduating high school, Mr. Gyee moved to Japan to work in the import trade. He imported fresh vegetables, beans, and other Myanmar products into Japan. He quickly learnt about Japan’s extremely strict import regulations and documentation.

In 1996, he returned to Myanmar and started exporting beans, sesame seeds, and onions to Japan. His Japanese clients then began to request honey.

A year later, he was trading honey to Japan. He also started to develop a knowledge of beekeeping from the Apiculture Department at the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development in Yangon.

I am a keen learner and started to read all about the nature of bees. The more I learnt, the more fascinated I became. Bees are about unity, hard work and protecting their colonies. And we understand how the bees are beneficial to humans and the environment. I like bees and enjoy working with them.

– Mr. Htaik Gyee, Founder and Managing Director, Shwe Pan Co. Ltd.

He later graduated from Yangon University with a Bachelor of Economics in 2000, and a Master of Public Administration in 2005. His tertiary studies gave him a strong foundation to follow his passion in apiculture and the honey industry.

Mr. Htaik Gyee has served as secretary of the Myanmar Apiculture Association for eight years. He wants to improve the Myanmar honey industry to help it become recognised in international markets. The Association follows industry regulations throughout the supply chain to ensure quality is upheld at every point.

In 2010, Shwe Pan Co.,Ltd. was established as a honey trader. In Myanmar, gold is a mined resource that has been produced in large quantities for a long time. Myanmar people are very fond of gold and love to call our country the Golden Land.

Shwe means “gold” in Burmese, representing our country. Pan means “put on the top of the head”. Shwe Pan means that we care and respect our country.

Initially, our honey was processed at a government factory but we quickly realised that we needed greater control over the quality and consistency.

In 2012, we opened the Shwe Pan factory and started processing our own honey for local and export markets.

By 2019, our export production had increased and we opened the Golden Bee Farm in Pyin Oo Lwin. Our 17-acre farm in central Myanmar has 50 beehives and is surrounded by orange and coffee farms.

In 2021, we produced 600 tons of honey.

Meeting client needs

Mr. Htaik Gyee’s time in Japan also gave him a deep knowledge and insight of Japanese culture, language, and business acumen. He understands the need to consistently deliver quality, and 24-hour service.

Shwe Pan’s aim is to fully understand our customers’ needs and meet their expectations. Mr. Htaik Gyee’s first-hand knowledge and in-country experience ensures we deliver a high level of detail and care for our clients.

Shwe Pan Company’s goal is to help Myanmar be recognized as a honey nation that delivers quality and consistency.
